Hi,
Bought an Acer N50 with a Sysonchip CF PLUs III GPS receiver back in February 2006, and am now awaiting the arrival of my third Sysonchip!!
Both of the previous two worked fine on arrival, but after varying times all gave up the ghost - they still worked and they still saw the occasional satellite, but they just never acquired a "fix".
Suppliers have been very good at replacing them, but that's not much good as it all gets very frustrating and costly, posting things back and forth all the time. They tell me I must just be "unlucky" and that they tend to be very good and reliable, and, in truth, when they work, they are very good, it's just that they don't work for very long!!
Searched around the Internet without much success, and as a last resort, E-Mailed SysonChip in Korea, and to my surprise, got the following E-Mail:
If your CF plus III takes too long time to get fixed satellite signal,
factory reset may help temporarily, but originally it is the problem of
SiRF III firmware. There can be a problem in the earlier 3.1.0
firmware version of SiRF III Chipset and SiRF company recently
released the firmware upgrade for this. Not all the SiRF III chipsets
have this problem, only a small portion of our initial production batch
with the earlier 3.1.0 Sirf III firmware might shows this problem.
Unfortunately both of the units had this problem and we are sorry
about this. Where do you live? You can send the unit to our
distributor to have a upgrade. If there is not any distributor you can
easily send it, you can send it to us. Please let me know where you
live.
So, apparently there was a firmware issue .... question is, if the third one falls over like the first two did, what should I do about it?
Any ideas? |
