mio 168 linked to car speakers??

hi i have got a mio 168 pda with tom tom software on. , when i use it in my car i would like to link it to my Headunit so that i can use my car speakers instead of my pda one.

is there any sort of cable i can get to link them up ???

it depends on the make/model of headunit you have.

if its a tape unit then you can use the cassette adapter and connect it to the headphone socket on the MIO.

if its a CD unit then it will need an AUX in port. it can either be a 3.5mm socket like the one on the MIO or phono style sockets in which case you will need a stereo phone to 3.5mm stereo jack cable which you can get from most places that sells hifi gear etc.

forgot the last option...an FM transmitter. it plugs into the headphone socket of your MIO and broadcasts an FM signal that your car radio can pick up.

if i use a transmitter , wont there be a deley on the sound . as i will be using it for video clips ect aswell ?? so will it be out of sync?

The way I have done this with my ipaq 6340 PDA & phone is by using a Parrot CK3300 combined bluetooth car kit and sat nav receiver. Sat nav instructions and warning act same as phone calls - audio is muted and sound goes thru audio to car speakers - so i can adjust the volume with my steering wheel controls. Sat nav continues during phone calls but instructions are muted so as not to interupt conversation.

Works very well for me but not cheap. Try looking at Parrots website http://www.parrot.biz/. Mine was supplied and fitted by www.justcarkits.com who are Parrot specialists and very good.

i cant say i've ever noticed sync issues but then i've never watched video clips in the car.

i dont think the parrot products will be of any use to you as your MIO168 doesn't have Bluetooth.

Connect to aux input is best.
An FM transmitter will be easiest if your radio does not have aux input.

Mio 168 has 2.5mm jack so you also need a 2.5>3.5mm stereo adapter for connecting to the FM tansmitter (usually has 3.5mm plug) or aux input.

Hi,

It depends if you want to continuously feed the PDA audio to the car speakers, or if you want the voice commands to break into music, etc. playing on the radio/CD.

If you don't want to be listening to anything else, then the (radio) head unit might have an audio input or you could use a cassette adapter (if the radio has a cassette player). If you have neither, then a radio transmitter is a possibility (but illegal) or you can put a "modulator" in the aerial cable. The radio has to be tuned to a particular frequency, so you won't get RDS traffic information (if you do now).

If none of the above is satisfactory, then you can get an "Aux in" adapter for most "factory fit" head units. One manufacturer is "Connects2" and surprising the cheapest source seems to be Halfords (£50). This might not be appropriate if you have a multi-CD changer fitted to the car.

If you want the voice commands to "interrupt" music playing on the radio/CD etc., then one solution is the following (German) control unit plus maybe a "telemute" adapter (again available for most modern car head units) and/or perhaps some type of interface cable:

The last option is likely to cost up to around £100, and you're going to need to know how to get to the connections on your car head unit for most of the above methods.
