I am considering upgrading the phone to a 7610 will this have the same problem.

Are you using an Original Nokia headset? I had a similar problem using a 3rd party car-kit, but when I changed it for a Nokia car-kit the problem went away. It was only a cheapo from ebay but did the trick >> http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,893,00.html

Carmex,
Is this the PPH-1? I'm looking on ebay for one, it looks perfect as I already have a holder. The nokia website doesn't seem to give the model number when I look up accessories for the 6600, and some of the ebay ads don't list it as a compatible phone...

Thanks...

if you can still get hold of one, i am using a pama plug n go wired phone holder,

quick queston, is the car kit active? because i found if the phone is pluged in without the car kit being already on, that i get no sound, if the car kit is switched on, then sound comes through the external speaker when the phone is pluged in..

Hi i am a first time user.If this is in the wrong place i am sorry.I am having this very anoying problem.Everything is working fine appart from on anoying bug which i can't solve.I have spent hours looking through forums and have read through all of tomtom product help files.I am a callout electrician so i do hundreds of miles a week to places i do not know so tomtom mobile 5 is a god send for me.I use a Nokia 6600 and a genuine Nokia hands free (model Nokia PPH-1 plug in hands free kit.The problem is i can't get the spoken directions to come through this hands free kit.As i drive a Transit which are not very quiet at 60mph i struggle to hear where i need to go.I have to have a kit i can swap from van to van as i don't always have the same van.I have a window suction mount so some times the sun shines on the screen so you cant visualy look at directions.Plus it is distracting taking eyes off the road to look at the little screen.I sometimes have to hold it close to me to listen to the directions but i got pulled over by police because they thought i was using it to make a call so the nice officer let me off with a warning when i explained to him.Surley a mobile phone navagition software will work with a hands free kit to produse loud spoken directions through the handsfree speaker whils driving.A soultion to this problem will be very appreciated. Is there a patch or update to combat this problem as there seem to be alot of people with this problem.I have trie connecting phone and then plugging hands free kit into fag lighter first and then starting tom tom but still no luck.I have tried various ways with no luck and are getting very frustrated. The frustrating part is the phone calls work hands free so i can't understand why the directions don't come through the loud speaker, maybe a software issue what a patch or update will fix.If this can be resolved it will be everything i could ask for and more.Thank you in advance.Carl

Yeah it's the PPH-1, and it works fine for me, however stellatank doesn't appear to be getting the same experience as me Sad

Perhaps it's a firmware thing on the phone?

Yes it works fine with telephone calls, just not with tom tom.My firmware is v 3.42.1
16-10-03
nhl-10
Bit old now.Maybe need to update for it to work.Don't thik tomtom was out for this phone when firmware was installed so maybe thats why it dosen't work.If anyone is using Nokia 6600 with tomtom mobile 5 and the nokia pph-1 hands free kit and they are getting the spoken directions through the Nokia pph-1 hands free kit can they check to see what version firmware they are using.Maybe it has to be newer than i have for it to work.

:D :D :D VERY HAPPY NOW.ANYONE WHO CAN'T GET THE SPOKEN DIRECTIONS THROUGH A HANDS FREE KIT IS PROBABLYU RUNNING ON V 3.42.1,16-10-03 WHICH IS TOO OLD.TAKE THE PHONE TO YOUR LOCAL NOKIA SERVICE CENTRE AND GET THEM TO UPDATE FIRMWARE TO 5.27 AND IT WILL WORK.THAT'S WHAT I DONE TODAY AND NOW ENGLISH JANE SHOUTS AT ME WHICH IS GREAT.PROBLEM SOLVED :D :D :D
YOU CAN FIND A NOKIA SERVICE CENTRE ON THE NOKIA WEBSITE.IT HAS DO BE DONE AT A SHOP UNLESS YOU HAVE ALL THE SPECILAST EQUIPMENT WHICH COSTS AROUND £500 SO I WAS TOLD BY MAN IN SHOP.ANYWAY HOPE THIS HELPS OTHERS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I HAD.

Well sorry about my abscence as i have been away on business, My firware is V3.42.1 16-10-03 NHL-10 which seems to be the problem to. Its a shame that Nokia still hasnt cottened onto the downloadable firmware that the sony uiq phones have.

I have although decided to buy the 6630 handset and am wondering what pitfulls this will bring I am aware my ph-1 will not fit but does anyone know whether the same problem exists for the car kit for the 6630?

Thankyou everone who responded.
