Can anyone help please?
I want to upgrade to V5 but have lost the tomtom cd cover with code on it .
I have a device code on the tom tom and the code on the white/green border card that I registered with tom tom but not the code I need.
Luckily I have backed up the SD card so I am about to copy it back otherwise it would be no tomtom for me for a few days/weeks ( it will not work at all now)Will the code be on the back up?
Any ideas? I have emailed tomtom but expecting a wait.
Thanks

If you have a device code, try going through the registration process with it. It might tell you the activation code which has been issued for that device. _________________ Tim |

I'm going through the exact same thing. I've emailed TomTom, and they sent a program which apparently gets the product code from your PC. Not sure how that works, but it didn't.
I've just e-mailed them back, but I'm getting very bad feelings about this. The warning in the e-mail was quite stark:
"Also, keep in mind that the product code is very important for your GO. Without it, the product can not be activated. Always keep it backed up in a safe place (not on your computer)."
So does this mean that it looks like I'm going to have to pay for another one? I bought my GO from Maplin who had "Grade B" GOs (where people had it and brought it back), and the disk was just in a plastic sleeve, no mention of a product code anywhere - the GO just worked out of the box, I didn't need to do anything, not even upgrade it.
I've got a bad feeling about this... |

If you have your original SD and have not reformatted it you can do the upgrade on there. Once that has been successful which doesnt require re-activation you can upgrade your new SD card and the ativation from the first upgrade will be retained. _________________ Mike Barrett |

If you have the original tom tom card you do not need to activate it but if you have an extra bigger card then upgrade to the original and then upgrade the bigger card without turning tom tom off then activation isnt asked for again - This worked for me.

Thanks for replies, it`s sorted now.
Tom tom did offer to email out a program thet detects the device code on the PC the tom tom was installed to but as I am the local tomtom expert( for want of a better word) I have installed about 4 of my mates on here so that wouldn`t work.
To be honest it`s all a bit of a mess not sure exactly what belongs to who but they all work for now.....untill the map upgrades!
Regards
Mark
p.s yes I already know I`m stupid. |

I've lost my code as well. Tomtom sent me the program to reclaim it upon being asked - but I haven't tried it yet: given the issues with V5 and old maps, I'm going to leave off installing until I have the new ones.
Which brings me to my point: Tomtom have informed me the new maps come with a NEW PRODUCT CODE, so if you've lost the old one... who cares? |

I expect that you will need your old product code to get the new maps. Failing this you will need a proof of purchase. Having the product code is so much easier. _________________ Mike Barrett |
