My 510's the same - a directory called Ficino and no soundfile called cosmicl.wav. I also have no idea what Ficino is!
I looked in the \Storage Card\Navman\MyPOI directory and noticed there's an INI file there with a bunch of settings in:
active=1 - Probably a flag to turn the warning on.
distance=200 - Distance for warning.
time=0 - No idea.
visualWarning=1 - Turn the visual warning on.
soundWarning=1 - Turn the sound warning on.
Unfortunately there's nothing about a specific sound in there. However, I had a look around and found another INI file, config.ini, in \Program Files\Navman\Ficino. This has got lots of settings in, including this:
VoiceScheme=\Program Files\Navman\Ficino\navman\sound\3c_uk_f.dat
This got me wondering if there was an unused setting for the sound warning that looked a bit like this. So I copied a small WAV file called burp.wav into the MyPOI directory and spent a few days playing around with the ini file (what can I say, things are always quiet after IBC in this job) and finally found that if you add the line:
soundfile=burp.wav
to the MyPOI INI file, it will play your sound file!
Now don't go mad with this, because I have no idea what the size limit is on the file and I don't think Navman will support you if you've been mucking around with the internal settings. Also, you may find your kids insist on you driving past the local red light camera every time you leave the house. "Make it burp, daddy!" Me and my stupid ideas... |

Blimey - you're brave. Still, well done! I'll have to look at trying that. Although after driving along the M25 the other day, my idea of the "warning warning" wav file is not such a good one. It'd be going off every few seconds with all the gatsos they have there.
IBC hmmm? We may know each other, Fixer. I'm in telly too. *sigh* |

I meant to ask this: I found the icons for the gatso's, etc don't always appear on the screen even tho the 510 still warns me of them. I used it yesterday and it was fine going to work but they disappeared totally on the way home. Today they are back on again? I can't understand it and I haven't turned them off in the Settings. Anyone else with this problem? |

I too have experienced disappearing icons, in my case all personal POI's that I have downloaded from this site. Sometimes they are on screen, sometimes not! |

I must say that I've experienced that phenomenon using SmartST V2 for the PocketPC as well, and that product only has built-in POIs. Most strange....I sometimes thought I must have unchecked a category, only to find that it *was* checked. I'd then return to the map and "Hey, presto" there was my icon, just where it was meant to be.... _________________ Tim |

Hi,
I done exactly what FIXER suggested using sound files from the following website http://www.sim98.freeserve.co.uk/AMN/sound.htm
It works great. The size of the files are roughly 40 - 60 Kb.
Works really well and those sounds are very clear.
Thank you Fixer you have sorted out my main problem!
Thanks a lot, have a really good new year dude!

Hi all..Great Forum
I have also followed the advice given by fixer, and initially it looks like it works correctly.
But the problem appears to be that when you embark on a destination, voice guidance instructions are audible ONLY up until the first modified WAV warning. After that all voice instructions for the journey remaining are no longer audible. But further speed camera warnings are..
I guess this could be the soundfile = .wav setting in the .ini file confusing the device???
Does anyone else experience this problem? |

Hi,
As mentioned before, i tried it, but then found i had exactly the same problem. The voice guidance stopped working after the first POI .wav warning.
Ive now reverted it back to how it was as the loss of sound was a pain in the backside.
Any solutions please advise.
All the best

Hi,
I have discovered that some sound files will not play and some will play and alert but then the voice commands for the routing stop. It seems to be down to the format of the sound file. Ones that work are in PCM format, 8 Bit, 1 Channel and 11KhZ frequency. Also found that if you modify a working WAV file to make it louder using the Windows Recorder application the same problem occurs. Good Luck.
