I have downloaded the Gatso database into my 510 (as well as the red light and SPECS) and they work fine - its just that I find the little 'bong' warning isn't enough.

Are there any websites with alternative .wav files I could use to replace just the one that warns of my POIs - something like 'warning - speedcamera', and how does one change the file?

Thanks
Steve

Details have been provided in another part of this forum:

As for the warning sound, it's likely that you can only change it if you can get to the directory structure. If you can, the file is called cosmicl.wav and you should be able to replace it.

I suggest an internet search of .wav files, or if you have a mic and sound card on your pc, record your own!

Thanks - I can get to the cosmicl file using browser - but couldn't find the topic you refer to 'on another part of the forum' so if anyone knows the link, please tell me!

I'm going to change mine so I hear the Lost In Space robot say "warning warning" - but I'm sad like that.

Just out of interest, where are Custom POIs stored on the 510?

I've found them under \Storage Card\Navman\MyPOI

What I can't find though is the cosmicl.wav file. All the sounds seem to be in the Windows folder (although there is one called Sounds which is empty).

Of course, if I did find it, I would rather just add my own wav file and keep everything there as it is. If I did this, any ideas on how I would get the 510 to associate a certain file with a certain action (like you can on a standard Windows OS?).

Program Files\Navman\SmartSTPro\Sound

directory. Rename the file cosmicl.wav to anything, then substitute your own .wav file and rename it cosmicl.wav

I can't find that directory at all. Mine goes: \Program Files\Navman\Ficino

What's Ficino??? Anyway, there doesn't appear to be a folder anywhere called SmartSTPro.

Also, I managed to find a wav file on the net called cosmicl.wav. I listened to it and I definately don't have that file on my 510. Hmmm. Could we be using different versions already? Are you in the UK Steven-f?

My 510's the same - a directory called Ficino and no soundfile called cosmicl.wav. I also have no idea what Ficino is!

I looked in the \Storage Card\Navman\MyPOI directory and noticed there's an INI file there with a bunch of settings in:
active=1 - Probably a flag to turn the warning on.
distance=200 - Distance for warning.
time=0 - No idea.
visualWarning=1 - Turn the visual warning on.
soundWarning=1 - Turn the sound warning on.

Unfortunately there's nothing about a specific sound in there. However, I had a look around and found another INI file, config.ini, in \Program Files\Navman\Ficino. This has got lots of settings in, including this:
VoiceScheme=\Program Files\Navman\Ficino\navman\sound\3c_uk_f.dat

This got me wondering if there was an unused setting for the sound warning that looked a bit like this. So I copied a small WAV file called burp.wav into the MyPOI directory and spent a few days playing around with the ini file (what can I say, things are always quiet after IBC in this job) and finally found that if you add the line:
soundfile=burp.wav
to the MyPOI INI file, it will play your sound file!

Now don't go mad with this, because I have no idea what the size limit is on the file and I don't think Navman will support you if you've been mucking around with the internal settings. Also, you may find your kids insist on you driving past the local red light camera every time you leave the house. "Make it burp, daddy!" Me and my stupid ideas...

Blimey - you're brave. Still, well done! I'll have to look at trying that. Although after driving along the M25 the other day, my idea of the "warning warning" wav file is not such a good one. It'd be going off every few seconds with all the gatsos they have there.

IBC hmmm? We may know each other, Fixer. I'm in telly too. *sigh*

I meant to ask this: I found the icons for the gatso's, etc don't always appear on the screen even tho the 510 still warns me of them. I used it yesterday and it was fine going to work but they disappeared totally on the way home. Today they are back on again? I can't understand it and I haven't turned them off in the Settings. Anyone else with this problem?

I too have experienced disappearing icons, in my case all personal POI's that I have downloaded from this site. Sometimes they are on screen, sometimes not!

I must say that I've experienced that phenomenon using SmartST V2 for the PocketPC as well, and that product only has built-in POIs. Most strange....I sometimes thought I must have unchecked a category, only to find that it *was* checked. I'd then return to the map and "Hey, presto" there was my icon, just where it was meant to be....

Hi,

I done exactly what FIXER suggested using sound files from the following website http://www.sim98.freeserve.co.uk/AMN/sound.htm

It works great. The size of the files are roughly 40 - 60 Kb.

Works really well and those sounds are very clear.

Thank you Fixer you have sorted out my main problem!

Thanks a lot, have a really good new year dude!
