Does anyone have this system?
Seems a very good price for what it does.
Is it possible to add POI like Cameras etc?
Any opinions on it?
Any better ones out there?
I was going to make my own carputer, but this seems to do most I want. I currently have Tomtom 5 on a PDA.
heres a link to it.

Thanks, look forward to hearing how you get on!
did you get a ch changer aswell?
Where did you purchase it from?
I've seen them on
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=AVICX1R
for £999 + £50 for a cd changer, is this a good price?
thanks

Got it as a replacement for a faulty Alpine unit (2months old), didnt get a CD changer as no where to put it. have been looking at the operating manualm on the pioneer site and seems to be a pretty powerful unit. Looking forward to next weekend when it is up and running. |

Had the pioneer system fitted today and 1st impresions are very good, The unit is far superior to the Alpine that it replaced, much cleared display, easier to set up and the tuner seems more powerful. Will post more in about a week. |

The TMC is great, had traffic info for all over the country whilst playing around with the unit. Instructions are complex but getting to grips with it. Will keep you posted. |

I am curious as to which Alpine unit you ditched and why you prefer the Pioneer? |

Oh and you may be interested with this forum
http://www.avicx1forums.com/forum/index.php
The posts here were some of the reasons i decided against this unit - that and its very very poor iPod integration. |

Yes, I've been checking out that forum for the past couple of months.
Is the ipod the only reason you didn't buy? I dont have one so that wouldn't worry me.
I haven't really seen a bad review on it yet
Any advise anyone can give me will be greatly appriciated, who knows, it may save me £900+ !!
Good to hear the TMC works in this country, I hope it actually reroutes when required!
What about insurance? most company's only cover upto £500.
One major consideration is the placing of POI's which I beleive isn't poss.
Looking on the AVICX forum there is a get around buy placing them in the address book. Not too bothered about speed cameras, but as I drive an LPG car, the locations of stations is vital. This is one thing I use alot on my current PDA/TOMTOM setup
Anyways, look forward to hearing more.
Thanks

The iPod inetgration is important. nor am i convinced the map data is the best.
I am going for the Alpine IVA-D310R head unit and NVE-N099P - Navigation unit. Mapping by Navteq, better POI database ( ok no cameras but personally not that fussed) better head unit for integrating the iPod and for later DAB radio. Less prone to crashes - always quite a godo sign if a piece of kit has a forum it usually means there are problems with it. |

Well i spoke to someone who came recomended as a fitter. he gets no fee out of what i buy. When i do buy i will go into the store and try both the Pioneer and Alpine unit. Its also the mapping data that is important if that is better then that is another plus in my book.
The fitter said that he installs mainly Alpine units now esp in high end cars. He said it wasn't a matter of price it was functionality. He also said the Pioneer wasn't a bad unit - just that the other was that much better. If you have never had a unit then the pioneer is great......but... the alpine is better. |

Alpine unit was an INAN333R, Radio reception was poor and TMC unpredictable. After 2 months the CD mechanism packed . With the Alpine you couldnt play a CD with the NAV in use where as with the Pioneer the route is remembered and you can listen to CD's whilst using the navigation. Just been using it today and it was excelent. |

Not fussed about playing CD's if the NAV is in use - thats why i have the iPod player. Also the device you had is completely different to the fold out screen of the pioneer and the IVA-D310R.
What about if you have to recalculate the route - i expect you have to put the nav DVD back in?
Having said that a 6CD changer is what less than £100 - hardly a big cost. |
