PostPosted: Mon May 10, 2004 2:21 pm    Post subject: Well I Returned my Unit to Aldi Reply with quote

Since buying my Aldi/Medio SatNav Bundle last November, I have been really happy with it, but recently trying to cut down on the bulk of items I take on trips abroad I purchased an XDA2 and Tomtom3 Kit,

so the Medion Aldi Bundle has been a little surplus, (Add to the fact they are doing an updated bundle next week for lesds money)

So I thought I would put the 12 months no quibble return to the test, boxed it all up and took it back ot my local store today, Unit was a little scuffed with 1 scratch on the sreen where it fell out the holder, so I was expecting a bit of hassle!

Anyway went to the till, said "I purchased this last November, I want to return it as I am not using it anymore and there is a newer cheaper one coming out next week!), Waited for the fuss, Nothing, they just filled out a refund form, asked if I wanted the refund in Cash or on my switch card, and then asked if I wanted to reserve one of the new sets that is coming out next Thursday!.

I declined as I am happy with my XDA2, but I may well pop along on Thursday and grab one to try out, lets face it nothing to lose,!

And as a follow up to my post in the earlier thread, yes the software with the new bundle is Full UK Mapping with MREurope as an extra, they said it is updated from the last batch, so will be interested to see how much newer as the last maps were really upto date!.

So to anyone else out there who is unhappy with the current unit now because of Synbc pros etc, bung it back now and get the new one.

Regards

Vicky

cant fault service like that really can you thanks for letting people know.

I am off to get one of the current ones on Thrusday all being well.

Has anyone got any info on the new one the PPC250 I believe its called, I am particularly looking for if the unit supports SDIO cards as I would like to buy a WIFI card which I believe the old unit you took back would accept!.

Cheers

Hi

The unit is supplied with an external mouse type GPS the same as the old unit so it will need to be connected to the car for power,

As for the SD Slot, Yes it is SDIO according to the Spec Sheet the store had.

I was interested to hear Vicki say that she was able to reserve one for Thursday. Does anyone know whether this is now ALDI policy?

I bought their PC last November and was told I couldn't put an advance reserve on.

Thanks in anticipation.

No, Aldi Policy is normally no reserves!, they only offerred me the option as I was returning my old unit as a gesture of goodwill.

Hi

You can always try at Aldi, but they are fairly strict, and often with high value items (like the last £100 PCs they did), they were not delivered to the stores till 8am on the Thursday morning for security reasons!

As for the Pup, cute but a pain in the neck, worse than the kids!

Regards

To get this absolutely clear, do I understand Vicky to be saying that the unit will not work as a GPS without a vehicle power supply?

I think I'm right in saying that it's a GPS mouse that is supplied in the bundle. These require external power, typically from a cigarette lighter socket, to power the GPS - they also power the Pocket PC from the same power source.

It looks like it from the Halfords site referenced in another thread.

Bit of a bummer, that. I hadn't realised you had to attach a car to make it work!

Thanks to everyone here. That's probably saved me a lot of cash!
