I have created this thread in order that others might learn from the experience gained from using (fighting) with the above device for some four months - It’s all working now:
Firstly get rid of the O2 Active interface it causes allsorts of bizarre lockups and really isn't required, the windows interface can do what this entire plug in is designed to achieve. (The same applies to the XDAIIi as well)
To eliminate the interface its best to perform a hard reset then sit with the device while it loads the various applications at the end of this (about 1 to 2 min) you will be presented with a screen that gives you the option to select Corporate or personal mode - select Corporate mode and enter the code 0506, this will prevent the active interface from loading, if you sit for too long without selecting the phone will default to personal and load the O2 rubbish. (There are other ways to remove the active interface - but they don't get rid of everything - been there and got the tee-shirt)
If you have a back-up of the software previously installed DO NOT re-load it as this will put the rubbish back on to the device and make matters worse (I tried this - it wrecks the device, another hard reset).
If you want to use TomTom via a wired GPS unit make sure the receive all beams icon is unchecked in settings/ connections, otherwise the serial port cannot be used. Further to this if you load the external keyboard device driver make sure you use the program that came with it to re-select the comm port/ IRdA instead of keyboard or the GPS won't work.
If using TomTom make sure its vs 5,1 otherwise the on-screen keyboard will not work when selecting the postcodes.
For a wired connection GPS used with TomTom use the option "Other Cable NMEA GPS", for use with a Bluetooth GPS use the SAME but after selecting the Baud speed set it to "Bluetooth Serial Port COM6"
One final tip if you ever make a call or receive one and there is no one at the other end terminate call and turn the Bluetooth on then off, re-make the call and it will all work - this is quicker than a full soft reset - which is what O2 support advocate doing.
I hope the above is found to be of use and will avoid the pitfalls that I have fallen into over time; I like the device (at last) but still wonder why O2 still insist in pre-loading rubbish that turns a quality product into something that is unusable when loaded up in their intended manor. The sooner O2 stop the active interface the better - Mike |

Another far better way to get rid of this problem is to install the latest ROM upgrade avail free from the O2 web site - I have been running it for nearly three weeks with no problems - a major improvement - worth the hastle of the hard reset and re-install of software - Mike |
