The problem isn't really that the map is out of date, it is the fact that they are randomly out of date,
I suspect this is a very old story, to do with sales channels and purging of older stock. Happens all the time.
TomTom have arbitrated (perhaps correctly) that the "newer" maps are not sufficiently better (indeed they may be worse in some respects!) to justify any kind of upgrade programme. The choice for them is to consider a "free upgrade if you bought after such and such a date and can prove it". Such programmes keep recent buyers happy, but can be quite expensive to run - a cost which users wind up paying for in the end in some way or another.
New doesn't always mean better anyway - if it was hardware, a later revision may be more reliable, or it may just be 'cost reduced'. Later maps may have more roads in some areas, but maybe less in other areas to keep the size down.
People often feel hard done buy not to get the latest version of something once they've made the commitment to buy it. But at the end of the day we decide to buy something based on the information we have at the time - in this case not knowing the map version. But we buy it anyway. Who knows, maybe the one you buy has a battery from a batch that lasts 10% longer - you don't check the serial number of the battery before you buy because you don't know it's an issue. If the product meets the published spec you're happy. Same applies to the map. In general you buy because you consider the map 'good enough' from what you researched.
Does knowing the next guy got a later map mean you wouldn't buy the product again? Maybe. But you decided to buy it in the first place. Your choice. TomTom do not offer a free map upgrade service. Your choice to buy without that.
However, my personal opinion is that TomTom could get some cheap good PR by sending out a few CDs with new maps. I don't suppose it would be that many anyway at the end of the day. But I wouldn't feel very aggrieved if they didn't. It's of more value to me that they seem to have a good policy when it comes to sorting out hardware problems quickly and efficiently.

I don't understand. You say you have TTN3 maps which are older but better. Why don't you use them then on your GO? If the maps are your's, you are allowed to do that.
And if that doesn't improve performance, most likely new maps will have the same problem.
It's then not at all a mapping issue, but an application issue. (And nothing to do with TeleAtlas).
you obviously dont understand the issue do you. You think that you can just load nav3 maps onto your GO do you, even though you own them. Even if you could the memory limitations of the GO would nore than likely offer no improvement.But i suppose you know better.

I was just trying help, you said the the old maps were better, well, then use them !
I probably do know better. The GO is a cardreader when connected via USB. Nav3 maps can be installed to a cardreader. I don't see the problem.
Only limitation is that you need to ActiveSync present on your pc, otherwise the Nav3 installer won't run.
As far as memory limitations go: a 256 mb sd card in a GO has the same size as a 256 mb sd card in a card reader or your in your pocketpc.
Memory limitations of the GO itself remain the same no matter which map you are using, v280 (Nav3), 314 (GO), or 390 (GO).
Jesus you don't half moan about nothing some of you! Sorry to have a go on my first post, but have a think about what you are saying!
I have had the Go since the beginning, & yes I have v3.14 on both unit & CD!
I also do over 1000 miles a week in unknown locations covering the Midlands, South West & Wales...The Go had been fantastic, absolutely superb even with v3.14 mapping :P Totally changed the way I drive & I for one would not be without it now..Even with the maps I have!
What do you really expect? Do you want the thing to actually drive your vehicle for you as well? Perhaps whilst massaging your feet to relieve any stress you may have?!
It is a navagation 'aid', no map will ever be 100% correct, it is not physically possible...Think about it. Ok so you have a map that 'may' not be the latest? So what, get over it. If you are having problems finding your destination, consider the fact that it may be just be you the bloody minded user rather then the Go itself...
Hats off to TomTom! Fantastic piece of equipment...& for the price what are you really complaining about!
